Quintessential Thought

Experimentation is not something to be afraid of. In fact, it can be very beneficial to talk about things in an experimental way when we are faced with a lot of unknowns. By doing so, we can acknowledge upfront that we don’t have all the answers and that we are open to learning. This can change the way we operate, leading us to gather more evidence more quickly.

However, this approach requires us to be humble, which can be difficult for some leaders. It means admitting that we don’t know everything and that we are willing to learn from others. This willingness to learn can lead to new discoveries and breakthroughs that we might not have otherwise found. So let’s embrace experimentation and embrace humility as we seek to learn and grow.

Quotes

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.” — Winston Churchill

“We favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt.” – Adam Grant

“You want experimentation. Every once in awhile, you stumble upon something that blows your mind.” – Jeremy Stoppelman

Quick Step

Try framing the next item you’re working on as an experiment. What is your hypothesis? How will you know if you were successful?

Question

What is the cost of not framing things as an experiment?
