Abstract

How teams manage their Product Backlog often makes or breaks their value creation chances. Poor backlog management leads to a feature factory trap, while a mindful strategy enables the team to drive value steadily.

Over the years, David has identified common traps teams often face and learned how to overcome them the hard way. Let David help you identify such challenges and help you overcome them, too.

During the Q&A part, David Pereira answered the following questions among others:

Stakeholders management: how to say ā€˜no?ā€™Prioritization [of Product Backlog items?]What are some good techniques to arrive at a Product Goal? How do you help stakeholders get mentally unstuck? Do you do experiments/exercises before they start to help them understand the folly of being stuck in out-of-date mindsets? How would you recommend responding to pushback about keeping the tech debt documentation in the backlog? How do you estimate a release date without an entire backlog? Our client is quite impatient and wants to push towards a fixed deadline we shall adhere to; we, however, canā€™t estimate a proper timeframe as all PBI requirements still need to be made clear. How to handle this? How do you handle different products? One backlog? You will have different sprint goals, also? How do you coach a PO of good lean backlog management in case they donā€™t want to receive any feedback and seem sensitive to advice from the ScM?
